Moveable books are magical, but not in the sense they levitate. They have movable parts that transform their structure or reveal hidden elements. Pop-up books are often considered examples of movable books. Come and enjoy a look at a variety of movable books and challenge your definition of what constitutes a book and how it is read.

May Meeting: Fabric Books
When thinking about 'fabric books' those made for children first come to mind. These are usually books with regular binding structures with sections sewn at the spine. Though bookbinding with fabric pages offer a different set of challenges. For example, how do you bind fabric pages that are formed as a single page as part of slow stitching? The pages are typically thicker with things attached.
An enjoyable deep dive exploring Google and YouTube, resulted in finding a very neat solution. While fabric pages are sewn together to form a section, the actual book structure is formed without further stitching or glue. As a result of no constrains at the spine, it opens flat and additional sections can easy be added as they are made.
Is this structure known to bookbinders? Yes, that is where it originated and there is a delightful story behind its development.
Come and make your own paper version of this clever book structure.

This book art format is a fun and easy structure to make, with lots of scope to personalise your book. July Meeting: Periodical Binding & 2025 Willis Binding Challenge
Join us for our July Meeting as we kick off the 2025 Willis Binding Challenge and dive into the art of periodical book binding. This meeting will focus on book structure and binding techniques to help you successfully take on this year’s challenge - to bind three years worth of Morocco Bound. We hope to see many entrants at the November meeting that look good on the shelf and are able to withstand the constant wear as a handy resource. Unbound folio copies of Morocco Bound will be available for purchase at the meeting.
